Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Welcome to Union Wesley AME Zion Church. We are a dynamic church and ministry trying to make a positive difference in the lives of our membership and the North East Washington D.C. Community.
As a church family, we endeavor to live out our faith by passionately modeling the life of Christ, and equipping and training seekers and believers to do the work of ministry in the church and community.
Union Wesley takes very seriously biblical Stewardship, and the responsibility of cultivating the people and resources God has entrusted to us. We encourage worship and study, regular and consistent giving through Tithes and offerings, and to get connected. The ministries at Union Wesley are diverse and provides opportunities for getting connected and the sharing of gifts and talents.
We extend a warm and sincere invitation to you to come and visit us. We will be pleased to welcome you to our church fellowship as we learn, love and grow in grace as brothers and sisters in Christ. We also pray that you will prosper in all good things and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
Grace and peace, Brian S. Relford Sr., Pastor
What to Expect
-
Spiritual
Our worship service is born out of the Methodist tradition, but Praise and Worship is an integral part of our spirit filled worship experience. When we gather together, we believe that God himself is present through his Holy Spirit. We have a dynamic music ministry and enjoy worshiping with instruments and the liturgical dance. We are a family of believers who enjoy each other and enjoy praising God.
Fellowship (after worship)
We enjoy continuing our worship experience thorough fellowship with one another after church Service is over. You are welcomed to stay and join us for dinner in our church social hall after the service has ended. This provides an opportunity to see our church as a family enjoying each other’s company and having fun. This will also provide an opportunity for you to speak with the Pastor and other Ministerial staff or church members.
Child Friendly
We have a very active children’s church ministry each Sunday during the regular morning worship service. Your children, (2 years old and above), will be cared for by a qualified staff of volunteer parents, receive an age appropriate Christian learning experience as well as snacks. Younger children are welcomed too as long as they are accompanied by one parent.
Uplifting
Through focusing on God, our faith is built up for service to others throughout the week. We serve each other in our "worship service" by providing opportunities for fellowship, sharing, confessing, prayer requests, and responding to God's word. People are welcome to be as expressive as they choose to be in their worship.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Where in Washington are you located?
We are located at 1860 Michigan Avenue NE, near the Washington, D.C./Maryland state line. We are approximately 15 minutes from central Washington, D.C. - the White House and US Capitol building - at the corner of Michigan and Eastern avenues (North East).
What is your worship like?
Our worship service is born out of the Methodist tradition, but Praise and Worship is an integral part of our spirit filled worship experience. We have a dynamic music ministry and enjoy worshiping with instruments and the liturgical dance. We are a family of believers who enjoy each other and enjoy praising God.
What should I wear?
We want all worshipers to be comfortable and feel welcomed. Feel free to worship in casual attire (jeans and shirt), business casual (slacks and dress shirt) or business/traditional dress (suit and tie, etc.).
What is meant by AME Zion? (African Methodist Episcopal Zion)?
We are called African because our forefathers, (descendents of Slaves brought to this Country and Freedmen), refused to relinquish their heritage. We are called Methodist because we are born of the Methodist tradition and have a method to our organization. We are called Episcopal because we have a system of governance. And we are called Zion to distinguish us from other Methodist bodies (e.g. United Methodist Church, African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, etc.). We are not exclusively African American in church membership or with our worshipers. We embrace multiculturalism and enjoy visitors and have members from all over the World. We are open to all who love God and want to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I’d like to talk more about what I heard during service. Who can I speak with? Can someone pray with me?
